Curb Appeal: Spruce Up the Yard with these Easy Tips

Sometimes, we are so caught up with the interior and the exterior décor that we completely end up ignoring the yard. It’s understandable though, given that so much has already been spent on decorations, and so we put off the landscaping for another time.

However, this can be a bad idea, because when neglected, a yard can make your entire house look less appealing, which is not good for more reasons than one. Stay with us as we discuss some easy ways to increase your home’s curb appeal, without having to spend too much on the changes.

Identify and Remove Junk

It’s time to get rid of that old relic of a car with high school memories and that discarded pile of old rotten furniture that you totally forgot was there in the corner.

Identifying the junk is important because more often than not, our minds do not see old useless things as what they are. Just take a thorough look at your yard and preferably bring along a friend with you to provide a neutral point of view on the subject. Dried and dead plants, broken swing sets, leftover materials from the previous renovation projects, etc. – all of it has to go now.

Mow the Lawn

It’s a simple and generic piece of advice, but it still works like a charm. Grass and weed can overgrow the yard in just a few days’ time if left unattended.

You do not have to start a garden, install a water fountain, or put in Victorian era statues, all you need to do is mow the lawn and keep the grass looking bright green and lush. A clean lawn has a surprisingly fresh appeal to it and it requires the least work too!

Make Your Yard Look Bigger

If you have a large house and a small yard, it immediately looks odd, even if it’s well kept. Symmetry plays the main role in aesthetics, so consider taking a few steps towards making your lawn look bigger and raising your curb appeal along the way.

By adding levels to the landscaping or putting in a vertical garden, the illusion of a bigger yard can be created. To know more about how you can make your yard look larger than it is, check out the ten clever little tips on KG Landscape.

Choose the Middle Ground Between a Garden and a Clean Lawn

A garden requires a lot of work, but a clean, lush green lawn could be made to look even more beautiful by adding some natural colors to it.
The middle-ground is to plant a few flowering shrubs strategically in the lawn. They are low maintenance and as long as you maintain the height of your grass and prune shrubs every once in a while, the combination will look absolutely gorgeous.

The yard creates the first impression on anyone who visits, and unless it’s at least maintained, the entire property gives off a poor vibe and makes you look like a lazy home owner. Just in case you are planning to sell the property, that unkempt yard will decrease your home’s value by the thousands.
