A new office in a new location, full of unexplored opportunities and possibilities, is an exciting prospect for a business owner, but the actual act of moving office can be a tiresome affair to deal with. Even if we set aside the business logistics, it’s the actual, “moving office” part that can be quite problematic to handle.

You have, most likely, invested good money in your office furniture, and leaving it behind is out of the question. However, if you are not careful, moving all that expensive and heavy office furniture to your new office location can be very tricky. To help lower the chances of accidents and property damage, here are four essential tips for moving office furniture safely to a new location, anywhere in the country.

Make an Assessment

Before taking any step, make an assessment to determine the following:

  • How many pieces of furniture are there?
  • How heavy are the heaviest items?
  • How many of the heavy furniture pieces are there in total?
  • How far away is your new office located from your current office?
  • Which are the cheapest and most replaceable items that can be left behind?

Hiring a Moving Company Intelligently

After you have made the estimates, it should be easier to take the next step, which is, of course, the difficult job of hiring the right moving company.
Take a safe and stress-free decision by going with a reputable company like Local Motion Moving, because they check all the right boxes that a moving company in charge of expensive, heavy and delicate furniture transportation should be able to check, including the following:

  • The workers should be background checked and properly trained
  • They should offer fast and secure packing services
  • The online reviews from past customers should be positive
  • Hired movers should have the years of experience necessary to know how one can haul heavy, but delicate equipment safely

Do a Bit of Your Own Packing and Moving

If you want to keep the costs down, get the willing employees to volunteer in packing up boxes that do not require special packaging.

Also, you may want to use a pickup truck for hauling the light and fairly portable furniture to the new location yourself. If you can get a few employees to help, even better. This, however, may not be a possibility if we are discussing a cross-country transport of course!

Don’t Try to Move Heavy Furniture on Your Own

A key point to keep in mind is that you should never try to move heavy furniture on your own, even if others are willing to volunteer. It doesn’t always matter how strong one is, unless someone is trained and experienced in moving furniture, it can be extremely dangerous for them and others.

Unlike ergonomically designed weights in the gym, furniture comes in all odd shapes and sizes, so leave it to the professionals. Instead, reduce expenses by packing as much as you can and leaving behind the cheaper, easily replaceable stuff.
