Nebula Lighting Sculpture by Stuart Fingerhut

Nebula can trace its beginnings to my enthusiasm for celestial space and interplanetary exploration. From the readings of Frank Herbert and Isaac Asimov to the films of 2001 and Interstellar, what lies beyond our planet has been a continuous source of inspiration for Stuart Fingerhut.

The forms and composition of Nebula reflect an aesthetic not of our present time or mainstream technology – a future scenario fitting our goal of reaching beyond our planet to deepen our understanding of the universe and ourselves. This future scenario frames a vision of what is to come, of places beyond our imagination, and of planes of reality beyond dimensions we can perceive and exert control over.

Nebula was developed during a three-month study period to express fluidity and dynamism in physical forms. Several hundred studies were produced during this process to identify the final piece presented. My aim with Nebula is to leave the viewer with a lasting optimism that there is still more to be explored and learned in our present and our future.

Nebula is hand assembled from laser-cut sheets of metallized acrylic with corresponding brass hardware. Its dimensions are 13” x 22” x 22”.
