Originally created for a close friend of the designer Elliot Eakin, the Usher daybed is made at a local Chicago upholstery shop that specializes in custom, handmade furniture constructed using traditional practices that ensure longevity.
The design of the piece exemplifies flow and continuity, with the base supporting the seat and the gaps in the upholstery creating natural hollows for the round bolster. The base resembles a modernized sleigh—sleek and symmetrical yet functional—and ideal sit and comfort is achieved via a traditional four-way tied springing.
The natural finish of the walnut base allows the flowing grain of the wood to stand out in its own beautiful simplicity, and the upholstery is finely detailed with saddle-stitched seaming that accents the piece’s clean, contemporary lines and proportions.
