Singapore based design company Industry+ launches Silver cabinet, designed by MIRO, at MAISON&OBJET in Paris.
Silver is a tribute to the local craftsmen of Hong Kong. Galvanized steel is a ubiquitous material found in older parts of Hong Kong, in the form of mail boxes, tool box for construction workers or gates of shops. Known as a material that can be easily manipulated, it is possible to make galvanized steel products in a one man factory, which is typically in an alley way next to busy streets. These Hong Kong crafts people work alone and without an apprentice, and once local appreciation for this humble material dissipates, so will the skill that goes with the trade.
Silver aims to show the beauty of this once popular material. The Silver cabinet is made with galvanized steel and environmentally friendly pine, which can be knocked down and comes in a box for easy shipping. The painted white area acts as a white board that can be used to write or sketch on, to assist in the exchange of ideas in the workspace.
