Brick Lamp, designed by HCWDstudio, is a minimal lamp that works with no switch, no shade and no wire. It interacts with your hand gesture and works in a intuitive way.
The original idea of this project is to let people aware of the moment of concealing and revealing light. We took this idea for brainstorming and finally came up with the unique lighting design would turn a quotidian routine into an enriching experience, providing an unexpected, fun quality to a daily object HCWDstudio
To make it a functional lamp, instead of a switch, light is activated when raised(on) and deactivated when laid flat(off).
• The bevel is made for easy grabbing and can also direct the light when it sit on its sides.
• The weight is engineered carefully to make it sitting up stably.
• With lithnium-ion built-in battery and LED lighting, it allows the brick lamp to glow continually up to 5 hours in a single charge with a USB charging port.
• The on & off mechanism is designed to work on all kinds of firm and horizontal surfaces including counter tops, blank covered floors, or glass tables.
There is more to make Brick Lamp unique, we manage to produce the housing of Brick Lamp in wood, cast concrete, and aluminum to suit different tastes. The concrete version is made from a special mix of cement and fine grain sands. The components are then cast in high quality rubber-mold to create a fine, smooth finish.
An alternative wood version is designed to suit classic interior furnishing. This version is made from an authentic single piece of wood lumber, coated with an all natural eco-friendly clear stain to give it an elegant finish.
The metal version is milled precisely out of a single piece of solid aluminum block by a Computer Numeric Controlled machine. To give it a sleek metallic touch, we use sand blasted matte finish on the bevels and brush texture on the top surface. The finished product then goes through an electric anodized process to permanently seals and protects the aluminum from rust and stain.
