Awkward Light by Andrea Kleinloog & Megan Hesse for Karakter

Both the name and form of the Awkward Light were derived from it’s function. The standing light was designed around the need to illuminate two areas in close proximity – for example, two sides of a sofa or both an armchair and a desk.

The resultant lengths of the arms create a contradictory, almost nervous balance in it’s proportions. It was crucial to the design to keep the elements as delicate as physics would allow. The design language soon began to dictate a ‘personality’ which could only be described … the Awkward little light.
