Both the name and form of the Awkward Light were derived from it's function. The standing light was designed around the need to illuminate two areas in close proximity - for example, two sides of a sofa or both an armchair and a desk.
The resultant lengths of the arms create a contradictory, almost nervous balance in it's proportions. It was crucial to the design to keep the elements as delicate as physics would allow. The design language soon began to dictate a 'personality' which could only be described ... the Awkward little light.
