Barca Lounge Chair by Branca-Lisboa

Barca by Branca-Lisboa is a lounge chair designed as a contemplation seat. Barca name refers to a small wood lake boat, handmade, useful, smooth in proportions, and part of an idyllic scenario, as if it always have been there.

At a first glance Barca looks as an old carpenters chair work and yet, it is new and it is the latest original piece from Branca-Lisboa, designed by Marco Sousa Santos. The build of Barca and its constructive details where developed closely between our most skilled carpenter Carlos Campos and the designer, spending 6 months long to achieve its final proportions.

Made out of Ash or Iroko wood, Barca structure reflects the unique knowledge of Portuguese wood joinery making each detail of the chair a “finding” to be touch and observed. Each Barca takes one week to be build, from wood selection to carving joints preparation and hand assembly, it is the result of a mixed production process where hand making is supported by a previous digital cnc drilling task. The use of the finest raw wood parts, the clever wood joints and a traditional weaving parts for the seat results in a light and smooth curved chair shape with a highly resistant structure.
