Danish furniture makers Overgaard & Dyrman launches Wire bar stool inspired by traditional saddle making.
With the Wire bar stool we aimed for a piece of furniture that works beautifully standing alone, but yet with strong references to the rest of the Wire Collection. We wanted to make an elegant stool that substantiates the idea of using traditional saddle making techniques combined with a cleverly thought steel structure. We like the idea of keeping structural elements and different materials separated and to focus on how graceful interactions between materials and individual parts can be achieved Jasper Overgaard, co-founder and Creative Director at Overgaard & Dyrman
The Wire bar stool comes in two heights. Steel tubes with a cross-section of 5 mm steel wires form the bearing structure, while a cigar shaped footrest is made in solid wood. The upholstery is crafted by using traditional techniques known from saddle making where thick full-grain tooling leather is sewn together with a soft exclusive aniline leather and a layer of foam to achieve stiffness to the ‘saddle’ as well as optimal sitting comfort. The leather saddle is mounted to the bearing structure with leather straps intertwined with the steel wires that shape the seat.
The Wire bar stool comes in satin chrome or mat black powder coated steel finish, with varies types of leather and wood.
The upholstery front is made in Yellowstone or Elegance leather from Sorensen Leather. Both types are beautiful leathers, but with specific and differing specifications. The back is in 3,5 mm full-grain leather.
Yellowstone is vegetable-tanned aniline leather with a wax finish, meaning the color will change over time. The individual story of the animal is mirrored on the surface of the leather making each hide exceptional and unique.
Elegance is pure aniline and made exclusively from the best raw hides. The leather is tanned with chrome but subsequently exposed to a vegetable tanning process, offering greater firmness. Natural color differences may occur on the hides.
