With the model Voltige, Didier Gomez revisits the wing chair, gesturing towards a kind of contemporary archetype.
From the wing chair, first seen around 1720, he retains the padded back, the cushioned seat and the low set-back armrests (to make space for the panniered skirts of the time). The armrests, which are bent into a concave curve, bring a note of softness which contrasts with the taut lines of the structure and cushion. The folded steel ‘corner’ feet succeed in ‘twisting’ the reinterpretation, which is brought to full completion by the use of quirky contemporary covering materials.
