The Numeradas project by Oficina Penadés is an exercise in style on chairs, a deliberately inefficient design test that moves away from the optimisation of industrial processes, which produce objects that are always perfect and all identical.
The studio was commissioned to create pieces from 56 oak barrels previously used to produce beverages. Numeradas is a series of 3,060 seats all different, combining 18 varieties of wood profiles. The Spanish designer conceived each chair with four different legs, so that each time their connections also had to be changed.
“Six prototypes have been physically produced using reclaimed wood from the barrels; for this operation we rescue four cubic meters of solid oak and we spent almost three months fully dedicated to this project” says Jorge Penadés.
