This apartment takes advantage of a penthouse by opening it up to the roof, adding large windows for daylight as well as a patio with 360-degree skyline views.

Located on the top floor of a historical landmark, this 900-square-feet Soho abode was given an entirely new floor plan, moving the kitchen from the back of the home to the center. A light-filled staircase lined with solid fir shelves leads up to the ipe-wood roof deck.

The colors, materials and spare lines reflect the client’s personal style. As the client desired, the pied-à-terre feels “distinctly American, harking back to the postwar optimism and experimentation of designers like Charles and Ray Eames.
