Pegasus Coffee Table by OS31

The project by British architecture practice OS31 explores how aviation heritage can be re-purposed to create bespoke furniture.

Using a compressor fan from a Pegasus jet engine, which once flew a Sea Harrier jet, the team have crafted a unique table that displays the beauty of the component’s outstanding engineering. As a result the powerful machine with military history is transformed into a delicate and elegant work of art.

Each of the 46 polished titanium blades show evidence of minor dings and chips from flight, adding to the unique history and character of the piece.

The fan was digitally reconstructed in 3D to allow the designers to generate and manufacture the custom aluminium profiles that form the table’s structure. This process means that the detailing fixes to the part in a non-destructive way, in order to preserve the fan without alteration or damage.
