When Chan Architecture were designing the renovation and extension to a double storey Victorian terrace house in South Melbourne, they decided to include a metal screen at the rear of the home.
The custom-designed laser-cut metal screen makes reference to the period iron lacework found on Victorian terrace houses.
By having a lace-like appearance, the screen appears to be light, providing varying levels of transparency. It also provides privacy to the upstairs bedrooms and creates interesting shadows through the day.
