{"id":420,"date":"2014-03-27T07:14:09","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T12:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sohomod.com\/blog\/?p=420"},"modified":"2019-12-05T19:28:30","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T19:28:30","slug":"prism-nightlight-nicholas-baker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sohomod.com\/blog\/prism-nightlight-nicholas-baker\/","title":{"rendered":"The Prism Nightlight by Nicholas Baker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[tps_header]<\/p>\n<p>This stylish light proves that nightlights aren\u2019t only for kids who are afraid of the dark. <strong>The Prism nightlight<\/strong> is a modern accessory that is minimal both in aesthetics and in operation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-421\" alt=\"The Prism Nightlight by Nicholas Baker\" src=\"https:\/\/sohomod.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/tumblr_myaih6Vmut1qbvqxgo9_r3_500.gif\" width=\"500\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Designed by Savannah College of Art and Design student <strong>Nicholas Baker<\/strong>, the Prism nightlight was inspired by the work of fellow designer Naoto Fukasawa. Fukasawa\u2019s \u201cWithout Thought\u201d ideology encourages design that is intuitive and simple.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe goal of this project was to explore a personal light device and create an innovative product taking inspiration from a notable designer. I researched the subtle subconscious cues from Naoto Fukasawa\u2019s design philosophy, along with his playful attitude to create my design. The Prism is a simple night-light inspired by the classic see-saw. The light is turned on by a single tilt of the product.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The wood and glass light works with a see-saw motion to flip it off and on. It is, indeed, a motion that can be done without much thought. The gentle rocking motion is reminiscent of the way mothers calm their children to send them off to sleep.<\/p>\n<p>As beautiful as the Prism nightlight is, it isn\u2019t a product that you\u2019ll find on store shelves anytime soon.
