Trestle Oak Table by Jorre van Ast for Arco

Trestle is the latest design from Jorre van Ast who has recast the functional look of the trestle to create a generously proportioned table that will complement any living space. The new design is the perfect addition to the range of products from Dutch table specialist Arco.

As with other models from the company’s Local Wood range, the oak for the table top is sourced from the area around the Arco factory in Winterswijk, Holland, close to the border with Germany. The two-part table top is supported at each end by a three-legged aluminium trestle, the height of which can be adjusted from 71 to 78 cm. This means that the table can be easily transported, set up and adapted to the intended purpose. The versatile Trestle comes in four sizes and looks good in a wide range of living spaces.

The solid, rectangular table top creates a striking contrast to the dynamic supports. It almost seems to float on the two aluminium trestles, although it actually sits securely on threaded pins. “This table is designed to bring the functionality of the Trestle into the living area,” explains Jorre van Ast, designer and Creative Director at Arco.

Increasingly, living spaces have to serve a lot of different functions. Eating, working, meeting and celebrating all take place at one and the same table, which as a result becomes a multi-purpose item of furniture. Thanks to its mobility and minimalistic design, Trestle serves a wide range of functions. Combined with chairs from the Arco collection it creates an inviting place for people to come together.

For the Local Wood collection, Arco works with partners from the region across the supply chain – from sourcing the raw material through sawmill processing to in-house production. Because the company is intent on bringing out the specific characteristics of the wood, small irregularities in the material are not concealed. The wood is carefully processed and its natural knots are a visible feature of the finished product.
